چکیده
Abstract Kusatsu-Shirane volcano hosts numerous thermal springs, fumaroles, and the crater lake of Yugama. Hence, it has been a particular study field for hydrothermal systems phreatic eruptions. On 23 January 2018, eruption occurred at Motoshirane cone Kusatsu-Shirane, where no considerable volcanic activity had reported in observational historical records. To understand process this unique event, we analyzed seismic, tilt, infrasound The onset surface accompanied by signal was preceded tremor inflation ~ 2 min. Tremor signals with frequency band 5–20 Hz remarkably coincide rapid inflation. We apply an amplitude source location method to seismic estimate locations. Our analysis locates sources 1 km north depth 0.5–1 from surface. Inferred locations correspond conductive layer impermeable cap-rock estimated magnetotelluric investigations. An upper portion seismogenic region suggests hosted beneath cap-rock. Examined are typically excited volcano-tectonic events faulting mechanism. Based on above characteristics background, interpret that excitation examined reflects small shear fractures induced sudden fluid injection layer. horizontal distance between inferred implies lateral migration fluid, although direct evidence is not available. exhibited unrest Yugama since 2014. However, do overlap active seismicity Therefore, our result 2018 triggered through different pathway driven activities

Using Wind Data to Predict the Risk of Volcanic Eruption: An Example from Damavand Volcano, Iran
Damavand volcano is located 60 km to the East North- East of Tehran. It is a dormant stratovolcano outcrop in the Alborz Mountains of northern Iran and is the highest mountain (5670 m) in the Middle East and West Asia. Mazandaran Province, one of the most populous provinces by population density, Semnan and Gorgan provinces further east are neighbours of the Damavand. Volcanism in Damavand goes...
متن کاملVolcanic Tremor and Its Use in Estimating Eruption Parameters
Volcanic tremor, a continuous seismic signal, accompanies virtually all eruptions. Several published studies have examined relations between tremor reduced displacement (DR, a normalized amplitude measure) and the VEI or ash plume height. The goals of these studies are to determine the physical relationships between tremor and eruptions and to use DR values to provide real-time estimates of eru...
متن کاملNonlinear Time Series Analysis of Volcanic Tremor Events Recorded at Sangay Volcano, Ecuador
The assumption that volcanic tremor may be generated by deterministic nonlinear source processes is now supported by a number of studies at different volcanoes worldwide that clearly demonstrate the low-dimensional nature of the phenomenon. We applied methods based on the theory of nonlinear dynamics to volcanic tremor events recorded at Sangay volcano, Ecuador in order to obtain more informati...
متن کاملSource of the great A.D. 1257 mystery eruption unveiled, Samalas volcano, Rinjani Volcanic Complex, Indonesia.
Polar ice core records attest to a colossal volcanic eruption that took place ca. A.D. 1257 or 1258, most probably in the tropics. Estimates based on sulfate deposition in these records suggest that it yielded the largest volcanic sulfur release to the stratosphere of the past 7,000 y. Tree rings, medieval chronicles, and computational models corroborate the expected worldwide atmospheric and c...
متن کاملVolcanic Ash and Daily Mortality in Sweden after the Icelandic Volcano Eruption of May 2011
In the aftermath of the Icelandic volcano Grimsvötn's eruption on 21 May 2011, volcanic ash reached Northern Europe. Elevated levels of ambient particles (PM) were registered in mid Sweden. The aim of the present study was to investigate if the Grimsvötn eruption had an effect on mortality in Sweden. Based on PM measurements at 16 sites across Sweden, data were classified into an ash exposed da...
